About Me

I am a yellow female lab that was donated to the Southeastern Guide Dogs, Inc. I hope to one day become a seeing eye dog to give freedom to someone who cannot see.

I am truly Blessed

"By Beth"

My best friend, Irene Crawford, just stopped by my house and gave me a pouch full of goodies for Waffles arrival.  And all this as she suffers through the loss of her dearly loved cat, Jaba, of 16 1/2 years.  I am truly blessed to have one of the greatest friends of all.  I love you Irene!!!

Freedom

"By Emily"

So yesterday, I got full run of the house.  I got to explore so many more places that I've not been before and found some favorite spots.  I really like the back of the chair or even in between the pillows on the chair.  It keeps me safe from the massive furball they call "Max".  Not sure what he is but I don't like him.  He is soooo huge and he just won't leave me alone.  I've even tried to smack him on his nose and spit in his face but he just keeps coming back for me.  If this is what brothers are like then I don't want any!!!!

I got to see outside today while it was raining.  My pet opened the blinds for me to see out and it looked all wet.  No thanks, I think I will stay inside where my pet will keep me warm and feed me whatever I want.  I did notice though my pet didn't like me on the table.  There were so many good smells coming from there last night but she just wouldn't let me check it out.

The last couple of weeks have been kinda odd around here and for them to let me explore has been a treat.  We have had several other furballs in my house that acted just like Max.  Always in my face.  And I hear we are getting another one next week...OH JOY!!!

Well, maybe this new one will be small and I can train it right.  This is my home and my pets.  Off for a nap now.

Only ONE more week

"By Beth"

Waffles arrives next Monday night.  I am so excited.  However, since the last obedience training, I've learned that I still have things that I need to get.

Of course the new baby will require her own fitted collar (which I won't buy until I know the appropriate size) but I need to buy a tooth brush and tooth paste.  This will be a new challenge for me and puppy alike.  I've never brushed a dog's teeth until last weekend at training (with Rudy).  It was kinda like brushing my kids teeth when they were little only I didn't get the lip...LOL.

I am also going to need a metal bowl.  Max has been eating out of a plastic bowl but he is much older and doesn't chew on things like that.  Shoot, he is so lazy that he lays down just to eat.  I'll have buy both of them new bowls for the safety of the puppy.  I've also decided that I need another leash.  The one I have is fine but will need a shorter one for the time being until Waffles needs the extra room.

Stay connected as I keep posts of my progress and the arrival of Waffles.

Preparing for the puppy

" By Beth"

OK so I've been raising animals all my life and I've been puppy sitting for Southeastern Guide Dogs for about 3 years off and on.   However, I will begin a new chapter by raising my own puppy, Waffles.  I should be receiving her the first week in November and boy do I have a bunch to do to get ready.

I've already bought her a leash and waste bags but I've still got alot to do.  My old crate needs to be washed out so that she will get a nice clean environment.  Food bowls also need to be cleaned.  I want to make her a soft palatte so that when we are out and about she doesn't need to sleep/stay on a cold hard floor (that is unless she prefers it).

I am so excited to begin this journey and know that someday, someone's life may be changed by it.

Please watch for posts of Waffles journey along with thoughts and comments from the resident brod, Max and Emily, featured currently on my blog.
